Unfortunately the file licensing is all based on the serial number in the company file, that's why changing/removing the serial is not a simple process. MYOB do have Support Notes that cover the steps required. This process is only simple and straightforward if your company file is very simple and straightforward. Also while you might get account balances, any outstanding debtors and creditors as at end of last June will need to be corrected, so that balances outstanding on each Card will be correct. BTW you will also need to export others things like Cards, Jobs, Activities etc if you have used these. Oh and you will need to reconcile your accounts again too. (note when I did this one transaction did not get transferred into the new file) so check the Balance sheet and Profit & Loss for any differences. You should now have all your transaction and balances in the new file. Is there a no cost work-around to alter Serial Number on Company Information file? I have found a way to get around the issue.įirst create a new data file in MYOB, then go into the locked data file and export ACCOUNTS and select Balances from June last Year (this will create a text file) then export TRANSACTION JOURNALS (select all and the select the date from the start of the current year until the date of the last transaction) You will have two text files called ACCOUNTS & JOURNAL then in the new data file, import the accounts file first then the Journal file. Given this is MY OWN data why does MYOB want to charge me to alter the serial number on the Company Information File? NB: both our old BusinessBasics and the new AccountRight Basics software are legitimate copies purchased commercially. MYOB tries to do an Online Confirm and trips over serial numbers.

Because this was not an upgrade the serial numbers do not match and I cannot open my Company File – i.e. This issue still exists, and I wondered if there is an answer? My not-for-profit club just purchased AccountRight Basics to replace an old copy of BusinessBasics. And I find it utter BS that I need to send my company file to MYOB and pay for it to be removed. When I open the file in premier – it gets upgraded so its compatible – but the old serial is kept – which I dont want.

Does anyone know how to remove / change the serial of a company file? I just bought MYOB premier V12 – my company file is from MYOB Accounting. Someone else that uses MYOB may be able to help. Do not have MYOB so cannot help by rummaging around my system for where the key may be stored. Aside from this and the Magical Jelly Been, I'm out of suggestions. Last suggestion is to actually call MYOB Support and explain the situation and see if they can help.
